- Unfortunately, not all power sources last forever. Batteries use chemical reactions to generate a voltage between their terminals and push electrons through a circuit. But batteries have a physical limit to their size, which means there's a limit to the amount of energy they can store. Thinking of electrical power sources, with the analogy of electricity being like water, you can think of this faucet as being a power supply that's attached to a wall outlet. It will maintain a constant output pressure representing voltage, and it can provide me a practically endless supply of flowing water representing current. A battery on the other hand is more like this cooler of water. It has a finite amount of water that it can store representing electrical charge and gravity creates pressure at the base of it to push that water out.
