- Many of the signals we use in electronic circuits come from a transducer, which is a device that converts from one form of energy into another. In the realm of electronics, transducers are used to convert some physical phenomena into an electrical signal, which is a voltage or current that conveys some sort of information and to convert that electrical signal back into another useful form of energy. For example, right now, I'm speaking into a microphone, which is a transducer that converts the energy from the sound waves of my voice into an electrical signal. And as you're listening to this video, that electrical signal representing my voice is being converted back into sound energy by another type of transducer, a speaker.
