Measure a signal

Measure a signal

- To measure a signal with your oscilloscope, first you'll need a probe. And most oscilloscopes will come with probe cables like this one. It has what's called a BNC connector on one end, which you attach to the oscilloscope by sliding it onto the channel you want to use. For now, I'll use channel one. And then you twist it until it clicks into place. The probe side has two main parts, the ground clip and the probe tip. You will attach the little alligator clip to the common or ground reference for your circuit, and then use the probe tip to poke around and measure voltages at other points throughout the circuit. It's similar to probing around a circuit with a multimeter. You simply touch the probe tip to the component you want to measure. Scope probes will often also include this optional little clip attachment, which slides onto the pointed end. It enables you to clip the probe onto wires in the circuit, which frees…
