From the course: Developing Your Emotional Intelligence

EQ development plan

- It's one thing learning about the concept of emotional intelligence and another to take action to make changes in your life so that you can reach the outcomes that are important to you. That is why you need a development plan. I'll walk you through the steps so you can complete your emotional intelligence development plan as we go. Firstly, consider your vision when it comes to developing emotional intelligence. What do you want to achieve? Think about your big vision. Maybe you want to create strong relationships with a team or a particular stakeholder. Perhaps you want to work on your self-awareness and understand your emotional triggers and derailers. Maybe you want to improve your social awareness or manage your interactions in tense situations more effectively. Complete this statement: the one thing I'd like to work on is. Next up, consider your mission. Why do you want to develop in this area? The more personal here, the better. You want to get to the bottom of why this mission means something to you. Maybe developing your emotional intelligence will help you to reach a promotion and improve your financial situation for you and to your family. Perhaps it'll make you happier at work as conflict becomes more constructive rather than combative and upsetting. Next, note your goals, exactly what you want to accomplish. This could be a regular meeting with X or journaling daily to understand emotions or practicing calm breathing every day and in tense situations. Then, note your tactics. Detail exactly how you plan to reach each goal that you have set for yourself. Finally, note the measures for each tactic. For each tactic, you want to be clear that you know when you've achieved it.
