Outlining your story
- [Bill] You've done all of your analysis. It's time to sit down and make sure your ideas will stick together before you start designing or developing anything. This step is all about vetting and testing the ideas that you've come up with so far. You want to come up with your story structure that will communicate your data in the best way possible. You've probably already been thinking about this as I was when walking through the Marvel comics dataset. The outline is incredibly high level. You're figuring out the structure and order of your story. The idea is to figure out what comes first, what's in that piece of the story, and then what happens? And then what after that? I always create a series of rectangles on a whiteboard, or using sticky notes or index cards, and each panel gets a one or two-word abbreviation for each story segment.
