- [Instructor] Stories are at their heart almost always about comparing and contrasting things and often about how things connect with each other because one key component of every story is ultimately about the transformation of a key character and what he or she goes through to achieve a goal. In data stories, this bit about character transformation can sometimes be a bit difficult to see, but trust me, it's there. We're often evaluating at least a binary choice comparing what ifs or whys, like what if we do nothing? Our profits will continue going down. Or, why are our events so unpopular when we hold them on Saturdays? We look at the data and try to make connections between our actions and outcomes, and we make decisions and change behaviors. In an abstract way, at a minimum we may be the key character in our data stories and our own transformation is what the story is about. What if Luke doesn't succeed in his training…
