When you are making an ask

- Need help with a confusing project? Want an introduction to someone? Our work lives are filled with opportunities to ask for what we need, and yet, for many of us, advocating for ourselves is tough. We worry that we'll look bad if we need to ask for help, even though research shows that if you ask for help with a simple task, it has no effect on how people perceive your competency. And if you ask for help with a complex job, it actually increases the perception of your competency. We also worry that people will tell us no, but we underestimate how many people are willing to help us and the amount of effort they're willing to expend.
