- I have shared a lot of tips with you in this course. If there is one thing you should remember when communicating with people from different cultures, it's that personality overrides general cultural characteristics. What do I mean by that? You may have heard that Italians are gregarious, well-dressed, family and pasta-loving people. You may be prepared to interact with a stereotype, and then you meet an Italian who's soft spoken and has none of these preferences. Personality overrides cultural stereotypes, and we all need to be careful to get to know others on a human level and an individual level. To become proficient with this cross-cultural communication skill, get ready to observe, be attuned, collect your data, and take notes.
