- I play with bands that had a percussionist in almost every band that I played in. So that's the, one of the reasons for having a lot of drums is to try to get as many different sounds as I possibly could from you know, just one, you know, unit. My cymbals, there are so many different cymbals because, once again, the percussionist would have cymbals as well and I was trying to incorporate that whole thing, trying to become the percussionist and the drummer, you know, all in one. Each cymbal represents something totally different. My splash cymbals, for instance, are basically that crash that doesn't need to be there. It's like a crash fill. Instead of going for the giant, you know, the big sounding crash for the finale or what have you, the splash cymbals I use them for more or less accents to something that Dave has played on his guitar or something that Le Roi has played on his sax or the middle of a phrase or something of…
