- Alright, so let's check out Cadd9. Now this chord is a beautiful sounding chord. Check it out. (guitar music) And you might be wondering, "Well, what's with that add9 note?" It definitely is a new concept. So far we've learned major and minor but it's relatively simple. You're just adding a new tone to that C chord and that is exactly nine notes higher than the root. Okay, so all chords are built off of a root and by that I mean this is the C note which we've learned before. And so if you count up from here nine notes, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, that's the new note that we're adding to this C to make this cool new quality. (guitar music) Let's try Strumming Through the Heartland, and this uses some Cadd9 and also that last strumming pattern that we learned, which, by the way, if you're only going to learn one strumming pattern, you should definitely learn that one.
