- On May 21st, the Microsoft Build Developers Conference kicked off with an unbelievable amount of announcements and updated developer tools, mostly related to Copilot and AI development. But even before that, Microsoft started the week by announcing what they call a new class of computers designed to run on-device AI solutions. These new computers are known as Copilot+ PCs. Now, most of us are familiar with the core components in a computer like the CPU, the GPU, and the RAM. But these new computers add the NPU, a Neural Processing Unit, capable of running AI processes locally on that computer. On-device processing means AI experiences can run significantly faster and many tasks do not require an internet connection. But this also comes with privacy benefits.
