- So, nobody likes Roto. Well, actually I have known a few people who do like it. But, I myself avoid it wherever possible. However, in less than an hour I was able to solve this shot by adding a few simple mask shapes and carefully animating them using just a handful of key frames. This course isn't really about Roto, so I'm saving the process of creating these mattes for another course and a different set of movies. But in this lesson, I'm gonna demonstrate how much more effective it is to save key light for where it works best. Now, you may recollect me saying that the key here, as it were, was to figure out what actually needs to be keyed. If this were a shot just of a car, we're left with something like you see here. You have to use your imagination a little bit. But it is a rack focus in which we go from being focused on the background, to the foreground with a slight bit of lens breathing.
