Expand and contract a luma matte with Minimax
- I've created an effective edge selection as a luma matte in order to blend the edges and reduce matte lines. But the regular matte tools won't let me adjust this because it's a luma matte, and those matte tools work on an alpha channel. Rather than going through all of the trouble of converting this back to an alpha channel I'm going to introduce a simple tool called the Minimax that will allow me to choke and spread this matte. The issue that I'm having right now is that the matte is working fine, but there are some bright little areas that it's missing. I also suspect that this matte could work even better if I were to spread it slightly. To do that, I'm going to go to the Channel menu and choose Minimax. The default setting is the one you usually want. You have to choose the operation and Minimum would choke the matte and these other options, Minimum Then Maximum or Maximum Then Minimum, are basically there to fill holes.
