Add a holdout matte

The visual effects term holdout matte is one slightly fancy way of talking about a matte that applies to any part of the frame and is used to separate that part of the frame from the rest of the frame. In this case, we're going to use a holdout matte just for the hair so that we can focus on that for one round of keying. Make sure, by the way, when you're dragging out your handles that you don't go the wrong way so that they're twisted like that. So this could be my setting for the whole shot. I'm going to be a little bit stingier, however. And after he moves just move them in a little bit. So we'll set a keyframe here; I can do that with Option M. And then another keyframe over here to just bring it in a little bit. And that should do it. So now I can adjust this matte just for the hair and this can be a very gentle adjustment. Tiny bit of clip white, tiny bit of clip black, and we are in very good shape. Now we just have to complete the rest of the shot and combine the two together.…
