- Psychological safety is the cornerstone of a positive and productive workplace culture. That's because psychological safety is about making room for everyone in the workplace to feel safe to speak up, bring their whole selves to work, and challenge the status quo. We're going to talk about how to build psychological safety, and step one is to reflect on your culture. Would you say people feel safe to speak up in meetings, give each other constructive feedback and try new things? Or is there a sense of shame, blame and gossip? If you're not doing any sort of employee survey, then your next step is to start asking other people how they describe the culture. Be inquisitive and through your conversations, essentially take the temperature of the company. Since there's a ton of research by Gallup, McKinsey Health Institute, MIT, and others, that most people don't feel valued at work or that their opinions don't matter.
