- Many assume that if they do great work, people will notice and they'll eventually be recognized for it. But the reality is that doing great work isn't always enough to get ahead. A 2021 study published in Harvard Business Review looked at four Fortune 500 companies and found that on average, managers either did not know or could not remember 60% of the work their teams do. If your manager or boss isn't aware of what you're doing, you can't be recognized for it. Here are three essential tips to make sure management is aware of your brand. First, management refresh. In performance reviews or one-to-ones with your manager, remind them of what you're working on, what you've delivered, and how you're leveraging your core strengths through all of your deliverables.
