- [Instructor] Track-based automation, like we discussed in arrangement view, is not available in session view. Instead, clip envelopes are used to add real-time control of mixer and device parameters. Let's take a look at how to work with clip-based automation in session view. So, I've got exercise three from chapter 12 open, and just a little background to start. I want to remind you that session view automation is not track based, but instead is part of the clip. And Ableton uses the term "clip envelopes" to distinguish between track automation and clip automation. Now, they look and feel the same to me, so I use these terms interchangeably, but I'll try to use these distinctions as we talk about clip envelopes versus track automation.
