Successful equity work recycles trust

- Equity work goes far beyond a single intervention. If we're trying to create an organization where people's success or failure can't be predicted by their demographics, there's a lot to do. Inequity can show up anywhere, in any aspect of the working experience, and so we have no shortage of opportunities to make positive change in our workplaces. But equity work takes time, energy, and investment, not just from leaders, but from an entire workforce. It's change management, after all, not just event programming. And each thing you ask someone to do on top of their day-to-day work is, in some form, an imposition, however small. Filling out a survey, attending a one-on-one interview, offering feedback on a document. It turns out that most workers are perfectly willing to do a little extra to benefit the organization, at least at first, and especially if the ask is small.
