- A few years back, I was working closely with a new people leader to analyze the data from their hiring pipeline for diversity, equity, and inclusion-related challenges. The demographic data overall showed a few concerning pain points, but none stood out more than their glaring gender gap in new hires. While the number of men and women who applied was roughly similar across most open roles in the company, over three-quarters of their final hires were men, with the percentage of women steadily dropping through every stage of their hiring process. This no doubt was a major contributor to the company's workforce demographic challenges, which overwhelmingly skewed male. While executives had previously chalked this up to a pipeline problem of no interested women candidates, the data we were analyzing suggested otherwise.
