- Evaluating the impact of a small equity intervention can be fairly straightforward. It's relatively easy to develop new language for a job description, roll out the new version to some candidates and see if application rates change for the candidates who see the new version compared to candidates who still see the old version, but for other interventions evaluating impact, arguably one of the most important steps in the entire equity playbook, can be a bit more of a journey. Take the example of one organization I worked with a few years back, a large nonprofit organization. For years before I got to know them, HR data showed that Black, Latine, Indigenous and South Asian staff were promoted at lower rates than others. A deeper dive revealed that the problem started as early as staff members' first months with the organization. The lack of community support for these groups led to feelings of isolation that were only exacerbated over time, leading to smaller professional networks…
