Involving everyone in equity efforts

- More than once, I've had to stop an overenthusiastic leader from trying to design and carry out an equity intervention all on their own. I've had to remind them that putting in the work to gather feedback and build understanding, buy-in, and an enthusiasm among the broader organization can make all the difference in an intervention success even if it takes just a little bit longer. Why would involving more people in designing and deploying an intervention help it succeed? I attribute it to an interesting phenomenon, some call the IKEA effect named after the Swedish retailer. In effect, people feel far more attached to and actually place more value in a product or a project that they create themselves. Whether that product is a new kitchen table or an equity intervention, I've seen this happen firsthand.
