Description

Join Pipeworks Studios and make your mark on the gaming industry as an Environment Artist on an exciting, recently announced Unreal-based AAA project. The Environment Artist will work closely with the Art Lead and Senior Environment Artist(s) support various projects on their environment design, modeling, and texturing needs with styles ranging from cartoony to realistic.

Day To Day

Responsibilities

  • Create environments for individual projects, as needed
  • Work with the Project Art Director or Art Lead to understand project requirements, then research, develop, and implement it in engine
  • Research current techniques used and utilize most relevant processes
  • Work with Design to determine level flow and how it will pertain to environments
  • Work closely with Technical Art to develop new or improved upon techniques to improve visual quality
  • Work with other departments as needed
  • Work independently and provide accurate time estimations for project planning

Skills Knowledge And Expertise

Must Haves

  • Understanding of Maya and/or Max
  • Unreal experience is required; familiarity with Unity is also preferred
  • Ability to create environment textures within tools such as Substance Designer
  • Ability to create or work off of environment concepts that are in various stages of completion
  • Ability to light a scene based on the design of mood and impact in the game
  • Ability to consider multiple requests/suggestions and come up with creative solutions
  • Understanding of what tasks will fall under design vs. art
  • Ability to keep an organized and consistent schedule
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Understanding of bug fixing and investigation
  • Ability to make visually impactful environments and push the envelope when needed
  • Work well independently and within a team
  • Work effectively with other artists and engineers to achieve project goals
  • Solve problems to the benefit of the project/team

Nice-To-Have Skills

  • Ability to use Zbrush
  • Ability to do FX
  • Ability to whitebox levels

Education & Experience Required

  • Any degree or certification in relevant field or equivalent work experience AND
  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar role

Materials Required

Candidate should include a portfolio of art that they have created or directed. An art test may be required.
