Using stories has always been integral to our approach to avalanche education at the UAC. Since our inaugural avalanche education video, "Winning the Avalanche Game," back in 1996, we've recognized the power of storytelling to convey important lessons. When we set out to create a new version of the Know Before You Go program, we knew we needed compelling narratives to drive home the dangers of avalanches and the long-lasting impact of our decisions in mountain terrain. Collaborating with Sherpas Cinema proved to be instrumental. Their expertise in finding powerful stories enabled us to uncover three deeply moving narratives that perfectly illustrate our message. We're immensely grateful to Adam, Katie, Brad, and Ginny for sharing their stories with us, and we hope that everyone who watches this film is as profoundly affected by their narratives as we were. Our ultimate goal is for viewers to take away a lifelong lesson about mountain safety and the consequences of our decision. This week marks the 20th anniversary of the tragic avalanche accident that spurred the UAC to create the now globally used Know Before You Go program. The core of the program is to ensure that anyone who lives or plays near snow-covered mountains has a basic understanding of the dangers of avalanches. You can learn more about avalanches at https://kbyg.org. For details of this tragic accident, see the accident report here: https://lnkd.in/g4wdTRne. The UAC has been at the forefront of avalanche forecasting and education since the founding of US avalanche science in Little Corronwood Canyon. In 1996 the UAC and Bruce Tremper created a revolutionary film "Winning the Avalanche Game". This was the first full length avalanche education film. Now it is hard hard to appreciate how cutting edge it was. While delivery has changed, the message is still the same.
