We’re celebrating 10 years of Repurpose with Purpose, our award-winning global environmental sustainability initiative that upcycles aircraft seat leather! With the help of community partners across the globe, we have upcycled more than one million pounds of aircraft seat leather, fostering sustainable solutions with a transformative community impact. Earlier this year, students from the Austin area were treated to a tour of the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) where their art, made with upcycled leather, is on display. In partnership with EcoRise, Southwest connected leather to classrooms, providing students with hands-on experiences in sustainability, creative reuse, and environmental literacy via EcoRise curriculum. Check out the exhibit on display at Austin Airport until September, 2024.

Today is World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, a day to raise awareness about human trafficking and promote the rights of trafficking victims and survivors. We’re proud to partner with organizations like Polaris (formerly Polaris Project) to aid survivors with their travel needs. Through our Points for a Purpose program, we donate Rapid Rewards points that help survivors receive trauma-informed care and access recovery programs. Thanks to many contributions from Customers like you, more than 260,000 Rapid Rewards points were used to support the travel needs of trafficking survivors between April-June 2024.

This week, we celebrated the launch of our newest partnership with the National Park Foundation! This year marks 25 years of us hiring Interns! What better way to celebrate National Intern Day AND National Hire a Veteran Day tomorrow than by highlighting one of our own? Farhan is now a Crew Scheduling Strategy & Portfolio Manager, but he started as an Intern in our People (HR) Department. His career in the Navy began right out of high school, and he continued to serve throughout college, his internship, and his early career. Transitioning from an internship to a full-time role, Farhan was able to manage his civilian and military careers simultaneously. He’s held various positions at Southwest and moved into a Leadership role last year. Farhan is proud to connect with and mentor current Interns while also participating in our “Heart With Heart” program that transports loved ones and fallen service members to their final resting place. He does all this while leading the Crew Scheduling Strategy & Portfolio Team. “The Southwest Family has supported me through all my career changes, and I’ve always felt encouraged to explore my passions and interests. I carry a sense of pride for Southwest even when I’m not at work, and I’m grateful for everything this Company has blessed me, my family, and all of our Cohearts with.” We employ more than 10,200 military members and 1,800 military spouses and are grateful for their sacrifices and contributions. What started as a routine flight turned into an unforgettable birthday extravaganza for little Edie, thanks to our incredible Employees. It all began when a Customer Service Agent saw that it was Edie's birthday and rallied fellow Passengers to start a dollar collection for the birthday girl. Once on board, our Flight Attendants took the party to new heights! The entire plane joined in singing "Happy Birthday," and Edie was presented with a makeshift 'crown' and a 'cake' crafted from toilet paper. Our Crew then invited Passengers to contribute to Edie's "cash train," where her birthday fund quickly grew with every step down the aisle. Upon landing, Edie's generosity shone through as she gifted $20 to a band playing at the airport. In turn, they serenaded her with a beautiful rendition of "Happy Birthday". We are so proud of our Employees for constantly going above and beyond to transform ordinary journeys into extraordinary memories. Edie, we hope your 6th birthday was as special as you are!
