We’ve broken ground on America's first high-speed rail project. This project and 60,000 others nationwide are transforming the future of our country's transportation.
The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s mission is to protect people and the environment by advancing the safe transportation of energy and other hazardous materials that are essential to our daily lives. About us: • From ensuring that freight trains and trucks properly display hazmat placards to inspecting underground energy and hazardous liquid and gas pipelines, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) is working to protect people and the environment by advancing the safe transportation of energy and other hazardous materials that are essential to our daily lives. To do this, the agency establishes national policy, sets and enforces standards, educates, and conducts research to prevent incidents. We also prepare the public and first responders to reduce consequences if an incident does occur. • At PHMSA, we're seeking talented and diverse professionals who want meaningful and challenging careers. We invest in training, technology, and mentoring for our employees and are committed to fostering a dynamic professional environment. • PHMSA develops and enforces regulations for the safe, reliable, and environmentally sound operation of the nation's 3.3 million mile pipeline system and more than 1.2 million daily shipments of hazardous materials by land, sea, and air. • PHMSA is one of ten U.S. Department of Transportation modal operating administrations and is comprised of the Office of Pipeline Safety and the Office of Hazardous Materials Safety, with five regional field offices across the nation.

Today, City Utilities began a $10 million project to upgrade Springfield's natural gas infrastructure, funded by a grant from the Department of Transportation. This upgrade will replace old, outdated pipes, improving safety and reducing harmful methane emissions. With support from federal partners and the hard work of CU employees, we're making Springfield safer, more reliable, and more sustainable for years to come. This is just the beginning of our commitment to a stronger future for our community!
We broke ground yesterday on a $10M gas pipe replacement project funded by the Biden-Harris Administration Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
