About us

The mission of the National Runaway Safeline (NRS) is to ensure America's runaway, homeless and at-risk youth are safe and off the streets. NRS' services include: - 24/7 access to crisis services via our 1-800-RUNAWAY hotline, chat, forum, and email. All services are free and confidential. - A database of resources and referrals for youth, ages 12-21, to local agencies and services across the nation. - The Home Free program, in partnership with Greyhound Lines, Inc., which offers youth a free bus ticket home or to a safe alternate living arrangement. Through these services, and much more, we serve over 125,000 youth in need annually.

Updates

  • We are thrilled to announce that National Runaway Prevention Month (NRPM) has officially been rebranded as Youth Homelessness Outreach, Prevention, & Education Month, or Youth HOPE Month! https://lnkd.in/gVfwH_Y7 Since 2001, November has been recognized as National Runaway Prevention Month following a White House Conference on Exploited and Runaway Children. The National Runaway Safeline (NRS) has partnered with hundreds of national, state, and local organizations to promote this vital public awareness campaign. Our goal has always been to highlight the often invisible and overlooked experiences of youth who have run away or experienced homelessness. The landscape of youth homelessness and runaway issues has evolved significantly since NRPM’s inception. Our understanding of the needs and experiences of young people has deepened and broadened, leading to a more inclusive and comprehensive approach. Today, it is widely acknowledged that incorporating the perspectives of young people with lived experiences is critical in shaping effective support and interventions. In the coming weeks, we will open registration for individuals and organizations to become official partners of Youth HOPE Month. As a valued past partner of NRPM and/or NRS, you can register as a partner for free NOW! By registering, you gain access to dozens of free resources, including toolkits, outreach materials, and social media graphics. You'll join a network of the most dedicated youth-facing service providers, community leaders, and supporters in the RHY community. Unlike NRPM, which required annual registration, you will only need to complete registration once, and you can easily make any necessary updates directly with NRS’s communications team. You or your organization will remain life-long partners in Youth HOPE Month unless you request removal from our database.

  • You have an incredible opportunity to make a big impact on the lives of vulnerable youth throughout the country! A generous anonymous donor has pledged to match every dollar we raise, up to $5,000, within the next 24 hours. This means your donation will go twice as far to help youth in crisis. Every day, young people turn to the National Runaway Safeline for critical services, including crisis intervention, resources, and support. We hear firsthand about their mental health challenges, the dangers they face on the streets, their struggles with parents who refuse to accept and validate who they are, and more. We have 24 hours to reach this goal and double our impact. Let’s seize this moment and make every dollar count! https://lnkd.in/gRdycgEW
