July was an exciting month for our global teams, as we participated in key industry events in Singapore and Korea.   We kicked off the month at the 2024 DIA Singapore Annual Meeting, where our Marken experts discussed how we seamlessly guide your clinical trials through each stage of the pharmaceutical journey in the APAC region, leveraging our industry-leading expertise, end-to-end services and advanced technology solutions.   Our team then went to Bioplus-Interphex Korea 2024, where Han Yong Cho, Ocean Service Manager, gave an insightful discussion on how we set new standards for sustainability in the precision logistics industry through collaborative efforts, innovative solutions, and strategic partnerships. Jay Park (박정석), Director, Business Development, also explored how we go beyond logistics with our single-source supply chain solutions, global GMP depot network and industry leading expertise, all under one roof.   At the end of the month, Marken experts Chiara Venuti and Zarina Abdoel-Piroe visited the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines facility in Amsterdam with some of our pharmaceutical clients. The United Kingdom Internal Market Scheme (UKIMS), established post-Brexit, is a new framework that facilitates the movement of goods within the UK, replacing the UK Trader Scheme.   Businesses can now register to declare goods as “not at risk” if these goods are intended for final use in Northern Ireland (NI) and are brought in from Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales). This designation means that no duty will be charged on these goods.   UKIMS will be implemented in two phases: - Before September 30, 2023: A broader range of traders can use the “not at risk” designation. - Starting September 30, 2024: The scheme will further simplify processes by reducing customs requirements and paperwork, with goods processed through “green” or “red” lanes based on their UKIMS status.   To benefit from these simplified processes, traders must update their UKIMS authorization and ensure their Economic Operations Registration and Identification (EORI) number is correctly linked. Today we bid a very fond farewell to Ariette van Strien, who joined Marken in 2010 and has served as its top executive since 2019. During her time at Marken, Ariette has positioned the company as an industry leader across the clinical trial supply chain. She developed optimized solutions and new services offerings for Marken’s clients during a period of significant growth. We are excited to announce that going forward Doaa Fathallah will lead Marken as Chief Operating Officer. Doaa has over two decades of specialized healthcare logistics and pharmaceutical experience, including serving as Marken’s General Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer since 2011 as well as leading Marken’s Patient-Centric Services Division and Polar Speed, a UPS Company.
