I’m thrilled to share that I’ve taken a new role as Head of Behavioral Health at Included Health, a company I’ve long admired. In this role, I’ll have the privilege of not only overseeing our therapy and psychiatry practices, but also ensuring that mental health support is tightly integrated with every other aspect of a member’s care — from virtual primary care to specialty care, chronic condition management, and navigation. Sadly, this level of integration is still the exception in healthcare. Despite the overwhelming evidence that integrated care improves outcomes (and reduces costs), there are not enough spaces in healthcare purpose-built with this holistic understanding and intention. After years of working at leading mental health companies, I’m incredibly excited to be joining a company and a team of clinicians committed to this comprehensive, collaborative approach. In fact, part of my reason for joining Included Health is my own experience as a member. Some years back, my daughter needed routine surgery, but we lived in an extremely under-resourced area with very few providers. After receiving an expert medical opinion through Included Health, we were guided to care in another state, with a surgeon who had very good outcomes. This experience — as well as seeing friends and family benefit from Included Health’s various forms of care — was proof to me that, with the right tools and the right team, our broken health care system can work. #iamincluded If you feel the same and want to join me in this work, we’re hiring therapists and psychiatrists! This underscores the vital role of tailored health care navigation in overcoming barriers and promoting inclusive, equitable health care. I usually don't share member feedback from work, but today I have to share this one. While I won't reveal her story, just know she is going through a lot (A story that brought tears to my eyes) . My Supervisor sent this to our team chat today after my interaction with this member. She was my first call of the day. “This is why we do what we do y'all!!! We may not always realize it but what we may feel as little work or little impact may not be just that for the person on the other end of the phone!! I just want to say Thank You to Tani McKenzie for representing our team so well and embodying our Core Values and our Teams expectations! Here is some direct member feedback she received this morning that i feel is worth sharing as anyone of you could and do make this kind of impact on our members lives every day! Remember we do amazing things here big or small!!! Member Feedback: I have to compliment Tani to you. You have been doing something right by having people like her training people like her so the compliment does extend to leadership as well. This young lady has been amazing!
