As a trial lawyer, Dallas partner Betty Yang’s motivation is simple: she wants to win. She also likes to prove wrong anyone who questions her ability based on her youthful appearance and diminutive stature, Betty tells Law360, and she enjoys high-stakes cases like the $1 billion fraud and breach-of-contract case that she was able to defeat largely because she noticed that one of the signatures appeared in blue ink instead of black ink. "I love … how much our attention to detail and our willingness to put in the work can affect the ultimate results for the client," she says. Betty also enjoys the performance of trials: “it appeals to my flair for the dramatic."   Betty is Co-Chair of our global Trial Practice Group and was recently recognized as one of Law360’s 2024 Trials Rising Stars.

Interviewed in Law360, Washington, D.C. partner Russell Balikian describes his work on several cases that earned him a spot among the telecom law practitioners under age 40 honored by Law360 as Rising Stars. Russell also discusses where he thinks U.S. law, especially administrative law, is headed, and shares why he chose to practice telecommunications law: "We rely on telecommunications every day, to do work, to stay connected with people. So it's a meaningful type of work, where you're producing something that is really fundamental to human existence, to have these connections with other people."

Protecting the reputation of his clients is what drives Orange County partner Colin Davis, recognized by Law360 as one of its 2024 Securities Rising Stars. Colin tells Law360 about some of the notable—and challenging—cases he has worked on and explains his passion for securities law, which he says fits his interests and skill set, and gives him an opportunity to work with and advise high-profile clients. "I found myself really kind of taken by and enthusiastic about business and securities," he says. "I get to work on interesting business issues from a litigation dimension, which blends both of my interests together." #Securities

Partner Rahul Vashi’s major deals in the oil and gas sector have earned him a spot among the energy law practitioners honored by Law360 as 2024 Energy Rising Stars. The series profiles lawyers “under 40 whose legal accomplishments belie their age.”   Looking to the future and an energy transition infrastructure that will take years to build, Rahul says: "As people focus on energy transition, I think the oil and gas space transactions are going to get more complex, not less complex. And access to capital is going to get more challenging, and so it's going to require more creativity and more leg work to get large deals done. That's something that I'm looking forward to."   Rahul is Co-Chair of our Oil and Gas Practice Group.   #OilAndGas #EnergyTransition #MandA
