From “Empower” to “In Power”✨ Shelley Zalis shared, "Let’s eliminate the word “empower” from our vocabulary when it comes to women. The term “empowering women” suggests that women are waiting for someone else to grant them power, as if they’re not capable on their own. The reality is, women already HAVE the power—they don’t need to wait for permission or validation. It’s time to shift the narrative from “empower” to “in power,” acknowledging that they are already capable and ready to lead. The phrase “empowered women” subtly perpetuates a double standard. We never hear “empowered men” because society assumes men inherently possess power. This assumption can leave women feeling like they need a special invitation just to participate fully. But leadership isn’t about holding a title; it’s about taking action and inspiring others. Women don’t need to be given power; they need to recognize and embrace the power they already have. By turning “empower” into “in power,” we can help dismantle outdated stereotypes and create a culture that values and recognizes women’s contributions equally. Let’s stop waiting for a permission slip and start owning our power. The time to act is now—let’s recognize it, celebrate it, and as Cher put it, harness our power!"

Appoint an Olympic commentator who deeply knows, loves, and respects the sport—and has an infectious personality to boot—and you’ve got yourself millions of engaged and informed spectators. Retired Olympic gymnast, Laurie Hernandez has absolutely killed it as a commentator during the #Paris2024 games, keeping the audience up to speed on what’s happening, explaining technicalities, and sprinkling in her own unique flair. Her success in this seat goes to show, once more, that women and people of color have valuable and unique points of view that elevate sports media and storytelling tremendously. Sooooo…. Olympics 2028?! 👀
