🎉 Congratulations to the winners of Abt’s 2024 photo contest, as selected by our own staff around the world! 🥉 Starting with the 3rd place winner, we’re celebrating this brilliant shot where Gladys Mkuchu worked with photographer Philemon Kabuje, to capture pupils at Buhigwe Primary School in Tanzania’s Kigoma Region joyfully accessing clean water within their school premises – a direct impact of their feedback through a suggestion box. Formerly, school pupils walked long distances to fetch water, which disrupted their learning schedule. The USAID Public Sector Systems Strengthening Activity (PS3+) supported the Government of Tanzania to promote the use of suggestion boxes to engage citizens at different levels. #AbtImpact

Congrats to USAID on the publication of their new #DigitalHealth position paper! This resource provides important guidance for countries and digital health practitioners as they embrace and scale their architectures, policies, and strategies. Critically, the paper addresses the growing challenge of fragmented and unsustainable digital technologies, while placing people at the center of the solution. Here are some ways that Abt is: ➡️ supporting sustainable, locally-led digital innovation: https://lnkd.in/eWd7X2ic ➡️ harnessing the power of digital ecosystems: https://lnkd.in/e2PFrkwR
Over the past 9 months I've had the privilege of guiding the development of USAID's updated digital health policy. It's with great joy that today I'm able to share the final product: USAID's Digital Health Position Paper (2024-2029). The document serves as a north star for USAID's investments in country-based digital technologies and data systems designed to support global health programs and strengthen health systems. This was a team effort, with sustained input across multiple co-creation sessions and drafts reviewed by the USAID workforce around the world. A huge thanks to all of those who collaborated in this effort! 💫 💥 Exciting News! USAID has released updated digital health policy guidance in the new Digital Health Position Paper (2024-2029). The position paper recommits to the four strategic priorities in the Digital Health Vision (2020-2024), and identifies six promising practices for USAID’s digital health investments and activities: PRIORITIES 📍 Assess and strengthen a country’s digital health enabling environment 📍 Align digital health investments to national digital health strategies 📍 Align digital health investments to national digital health architecture 📍 Consider the use of global goods PRACTICES 1️⃣ Commit to person-centered point-of-care digital systems 2️⃣ Require data standards to enable integrated health service delivery at scale 3️⃣ Support country-led governance of health system digital transformation 4️⃣ Strengthen data privacy and cybersecurity practices, and related country regulations 5️⃣ Deepen engagement with local partners, including the private sector 6️⃣ Invest in shared resources that advance the global digital health commons 🎯 This policy guidance addresses the problem of fragmented, non-interoperable, and unsustainable digital technologies in country health systems—and advances a vision for strengthened country digital health governance, and more person-centered, integrated, and equitable care. We are excited to announce that Abt Global Britain has been appointed to lead the Decision Support Unit (DSU) of the Land Facility, a new seven-year programme funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). This groundbreaking initiative aims to transform land governance and develop a critical foundation for inclusive growth, sustainable land use, and stability in focus regions of Africa, South East Asia and Latin America. The independent Decision Support Unit supports evidence-informed, outcome-oriented and value for money (VfM)-driven decision making by FCDO and the Land Facility Lead Supplier (delivered by a Tetra Tech led consortium). Our involvement in this programme aligns with our mission to use evidence and learning to drive positive change and build resilient communities worldwide. By ensuring that land is used and managed effectively, we are helping to lay foundations for economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social equity.
