What do you do if your data architecture needs a boost of innovation through strategic thinking?

See, everything depends on what business wants. Sometime ago i came accross a term, 'Data as a Product' (DaaP). In this you just not provide data access, but how we present the data, i.e in form of dashboards, reports, or if required via APIs. May be bringing in automation by ML or other emerging technologies can help. Open to comments/ideas which will help me learn.

Most imp and preliminary aspect is to assess the current business need and the future needs of the business by assessing company current requirements, vision and market directions including Technology innovation impacting the industry. It is very important that all these quadrants fit into the block and analysed toghether rather than in Silos and mapped with market dynamics from business side and technology trends. Once this is clear a more meaningful data assessment of the existing architecture v/s businesses current and future needs be evaluated and mapped and changes be done to bring in the mentioned aspects in question, which can be actioned. Most imp not to forget the Budget allocation.

Engage with stakeholders across different teams to gather insights into their data needs and pain points. Understand the specific challenges faced by each department in utilizing and accessing data. Data architecture assessment requires a deep dive into your existing infrastructure, data flows, and storage solutions. Look closely at the performance metrics and scalability of your architecture—are they meeting your organization's current demands? One thing I have found helpful is to build a community that includes all (product/program, IT, Finance, Risk, and Architecture) stakeholders so that ideas can flow freely and traditional organizational silos are dissolved.

It is important to brain storm with key stakeholders/decision makers (who understand) and showcase them the Market/industry movement and trends and its impact (+ve and -ve) on business down the line and showcase some examples or benefits that can be reaped by the organization and/or the dept.

Initiate discussions to gather feedback on current processes, limitations, data quality issues, & outcomes. My favourite out here is and always will be the Design component, which is the most powerful aspect but yet overlooked aspect by IT to achive flexibility, scalability and extensibility, which I have always achieved the above criterias using the power of solution design/architecture. I have always followed personally and recommend the Lego block concept/approach, where solutions are like lego blocks and feeding into each other. This gives us the advantage of removing individual block/applications as the product lifecylce expires or doesnt meet the business requirements and replace it without impacting the overall Enterprise architecture.
