If a team member leaves the project for any reason, the best approach is to dismantle and delegate their duties, considering the most relevant areas of expertise and stakeholders. For example, if the MEP Engineer/Designer leaves the project, we should delegate their responsibilities to a colleague who has an acceptable knowledge of the area and a good relationship with other stakeholders.

If there is any doubt, we should conduct frequent check-ins to keep everyone aligned and understanding the same KPIs, messages, etc. This way, if a team member leaves, their tasks can be easily redistributed among the remaining members. Additionally, by clearly identifying each person's strengths, we can reassign tasks in a way that leverages those strengths, ensuring a quick and efficient "re-gearing" process. Be mindful not to overburden anyone; that's why I emphasize redistributing tasks rather than all responsibilities, making the load more balanced and optimal.

Even if you are in the best position to hire the perfect team member, you have to give time. To make his/her start easier, one or two mentors should accompany in the first week's. Don't forget, that the new member needs to learn the knowledge of the left one.
