I was being interviewed for the position of management trainee in sales and was asked why I wanted to pursue a career in sales. I recounted how I drew inspiration from the character Hamid in Munshi Premchand's short story 'Idgah'. Hamid, despite having modest means, was able to sell the charm of a simple Chimta to his friends who had received expensive toys on Eid. Later, he gifted the Chimta to his mother to spare her from burning her hands while making Roti. I shared this story with the panel, holding their attention for a full 10 minutes, and it resonated well. Ultimately, I secured the job. The key takeaway is to ensure your story remains relevant; that's what truly captivates.

I’ve found out that stories that are relatable to clients have a way of endearing them to you. When one shares stories of successes and failures and how one was able to come out of such situations it inspires others and gives hope.

In one case, I had a client who struggled with self-doubt and lacked direction. I helped them identify their strengths and set achievable goals. Through regular sessions, positive reinforcement, and tailored exercises, they gained confidence and clarity. Over time, they not only met their goals but also exceeded their own expectations, starting a successful business. Sharing such stories illustrates your impact and shows how you can genuinely inspire and motivate others.

When people see the way you care about what concerns them , they are able to open up even the more. People don’t like being judged or castigated. So when someone is able to feel or imagine what they are going through , they get the buy in of such person

Highlighting empathy in life coaching is crucial. It's about genuinely empathising with your client's emotions. Active listening is key. When clients feel truly heard, it fosters deeper connection and trust. For instance, I had a client dealing with overwhelm. By listening and validating their feelings without judgment, I created a safe space. This helped them feel understood and empowered to open up more. Your approach should fit each client's needs and also show empathy. Consistent support during setbacks and celebrating small victories can make a big difference. These aspects of empathy – active listening, personalized approaches, and unwavering support – set effective life coaches apart.

Most posts you read about confidence are deceptive, slanted to reflect the opinions of the coach. That’s not to say they are wrong, simply that they should not be accepted at face value, without fact checking them past your own experiences. My client Martin did not accept his value. He was 3 months premature, which put him in the wrong year at school. He is both dyslexic and dyspraxic, yet was a cycling champion. I was the first person to tell him how special he was. Martin was running flat out to close the gap he perceived in his performance. Running so hard to reach 10/10 that he didn’t realise he was already at 12/10. Martin now realises his genius, sleeps better and has a wonderful relationship with his wife.

I was quite astounded when I went to the doctor a few years ago (1st World Country un-named) and the doctor tried to look up my diagnosis on Google. Wow! It just did not sit right with me, I value Google as a search engine, but had totally lost confidence in my doctor’s expertise and sought a second opinion as his actions showed me that he was not confident… Being confident, is quite reassuring for clients, a solid display of confidence will reassure the potential clients that you posses the necessary skills to coach him/her. Not sure of this, the next time you seek professional guidance, assess his/her confidence level and see how you are with a positive/negative result?

Some times, just some times, you have to be able to break someone's ego down before you approach them to build them back up. "False ego" or what you would call "false bravado" is some times so deeply rooted into their lives that they themselves didn't notice. So don't just instill confidence. It is some times a drug that breaks a person.

É mais inteligente que o seu método abranja a infinita, porém contida, diversidade humana. Compramos inadvertidamente que a exigência da especificação. Apesar das infinitas possibilidades, o fenômeno humano é genérico. A complexidade vem das histórias (combinações) desses fenômenos genéricos. Conhecer e compreender essa generalidade dá muita potência para o coach atuar nas mais diversas situações.

When we feel defeated, stuck in our heads, overthinking situations, anxious and beaten down there is no way for us to think logical or reasonably. Flexibility is the game changer:) Going into a client call it’s important for the coach to be ready and grounded with all the techniques ready to go. The times that would I would think “this is a great day to shift an inner belief for this person” might very well be the day that a “confidence boost for a new job” is actually what they are needing! I love that every person has unique qualities and working with the person to enhance and grow their mindset is truly a transformational process.

One thing I have found helpful is to visualise the outcomes. It inspires the clients to define their actions clearly and the shift they need to make in their behaviours. This can further be broken down into baby steps to build the required muscle

I realized that sometimes, coaches are actually powerless in the face of a massive variable. No matter how well thought or how relevant you try to be, things can get out of hand due to external factors that you have no control over.

Continuous learning and personal development is a lifelong quest. When we stop learning, we start dying. Discussing your learning process with your clients, reinforces their trust in your expertise and it also helps them to see that growth is possible. It motivates them to embrace a growth mindset. My coach and mentor, none of his classes and workshops are ever the same. He brings a new perspective each time to his programs even if they are repeat courses or workshops. His approach encourages me to keep learning to improve my skills and expertise and to better equip my clients with more powerful and relevant tools to growth.

I’ve always believed in the concept of learn, unlearn and relearn to upskill and to remain relevant. I’ve done several courses related to emotional intelligence and leadership which has broadened my horizon. Recently, based on the nexus between emotional intelligence and conflict resolution, I took a course on Alternative Dispute Resolution to hone my skills on conflict management and to help improve my social skills.

Essa exigência de que sempre há algo a aprender de novo é um perigo. Revela uma das regras ocultas do nosso presente cultural: nunca está suficiente. Isso não é novo, apesar de estar bem evidente no pós-pós-modernismo. E, como toda exigência, favorece o esgotamento e a corrida pela mais nova e poderosa "tecnologia humana" que não durará mais que 5 anos. É melhor uma poça d´água profunda que um oceano raso. Por outro lado, aprender é natural para nós. Invariavelmente vamos aprender como todo relacionamento novo que surge na nossa vida. Isso é simples e natural, não precisa fazer força.

Show your personality. It matters alot to the people you’ll be working with. At the end of the day, it’s not just about being good at what you do but rather being a joy to work with.🦄🌈

I would go through a quick activity with them that let's them identify an area in their career where they feel they could improve (if they want to share). Then I would ask them about the steps they've taken to improve in that area and if not, I'd ask if they believe they have the ability to grow. Hopefully they share their progress and I would draw attention to that and how if they keep working at it, they are sure to get to their goal and further. Lastly, I'd have them visualize their success. After the activity, I would explain that I would do and have done something similar with clients. I'll explain more in a video on my profile.

Just sharing 4 of the tips that you can put to use right now. 1) Listen more, talk less. 2) You are leading a person to their own answers, don't pluck your opinion onto them and give them labels. 3) Don't lie. What you need in this entire exchange or interview are truths, even if it hurts. 4) Don't think too hard about it. Some times, things are just meant to be taken at face value.
