Greater the involvement of AI, higher the quality checks. AI's self learning capability demands to have high level of quality gates.

Consulting is all about insights and swift action on these insights. By processing massive amounts of data quickly and accurately, consultants can easily extract valuable insights buried under useless information in complex data sets. As a result, they can provide data-driven recommendations and strategies, leading to more informed decision-making for their clients. A lot of mundane tasks can be automated by AI which not only increases the efficiency but I feel AI does a much better job at it than I would. We've had to do this since we started, AI hasn't replaced our need to stay up to date and learn things, it has simply made things more accessible. This is something not just consultant, but employees of corps should do as well and not rely on their employer to show them or teach them. Recent data is showing that they won't.

It is absolutely paramount whether you are a consultant or employee, to learn and know AI. I'm not saying from an engineering perspective, but knowing the tools for YOUR specific role or career field that can enhance your work, will soon not be optional. It will mandatory. The stats are all out there about this. You need only read them. So "gaining a competitive edge" like the prompt says, sure, here in the still somewhat early stages. But in the next 12-24 months? You will need to know some AI tools for your role and be able to speak to your knowledge to employers and in my case as a consultant, clients.

There are so many ways that we can leverage AI tools including generative AI to be our assistant to handle first drafts of tools and deliverables that we need to complete quickly for our clients. Where could you save time on those first drafts of documents like SBARs, job descriptions, etc.? Once you have the foundation of the document laid out, you can overlay your technical and industry expertise while fully customizing it to your customer's needs. Leveraging AI to conduct initial broad market research at high throughput definitely increases your competitive edge. For example you could use Google’s Gemini to research state of current technologies, economies and markets. Then use chatGPT to create prompts that streamline the identification of key sections to include in your market research/business case doc. AI offer great assistive functionalities and saves your a lot of time on rudimentary and secondary research.

Contrary to popular opinion, AI doesn't provide an alternative to human decisioning. It does however, provide a summarization of available information that can reduce the complexity of decision making substantially. Using AI effectively can help to short-circuit the process of analysis & move through possible options faster. For a Consultant, the ability to harness this differentiative factor of AI can be a great tool in their arsenal. Case in point, ChatGPT or Gemini both provide very different outputs for the same prompt & variations in those prompts. Choosing the right AI, understanding it's response patterns & developing one's own approach to fashion the most contextual information output from it, will be immensely valuable.

AI capability is massive, and one needs to know how to leverage it to its best. Talking about a recent use case where I wanted to run a LLM model on my laptop to leverage its potential without exposing my documents to the internet – I used embeddings coupled with a pre-trained LLM model. This approach will let you point the LLM to learn from the proprietary documents you share with it. It analyzes and comprehends the data, answer any questions from that document, all by running on just the CPU power. Advantages are – you are not risking your proprietary data to internet, you do not need high GPUs to run an LLM and, you can choose a pre-trained LLM for the purpose (no need to reinvent the wheel).
