It’s important to identify which areas of the strategy needs a consultative approach and which areas require a decisive push. Focus on the crucial areas that require buy-in instead of spreading yourself thinly. It pays to find a balance between addressing concerns and leading your team to a vision that not all of them may fully grasp yet. Pilots are helpful to ease people into it - start small and help the team see the value of the goal and strategy. Psychologically when something is primed as a pilot or experiment, people are also less afraid of failure and trying something new.

If your team is divided on the strategic vision and not aligned on the next / best path forward, ask yourself: Might we be able to get more information and increase alignment and confidence in the vision by running a few small tests or prototypes to try different scenarios? Prototyping and testing is common in product development and design thinking, so why not in strategy? Test and then allow you and your teams to be informed by the results, user feedback and small lower-risk trials when possible, before you commit to the full strategy. You can learn a lot, often move more quickly, and build alignment and confidence from the team in the process, which has the added benefit of increasing engagement and often encouraging team work.
