Strategies shouldn't be thought of as sacred - that's a recipe for being disrupted. That said, strategies shouldn't be changed on a whim. There needs to be a thoughtful assessment to understand WHY the strategy should change, what changes should occur, the cost of the strategy change, and then how we will execute on an updated strategy. Only then, can you start to communicate and align teams.
