Generally if you find you are trying to workaround the limitations of tftp you are probably using the wrong tool. It was designed as a very lightweight file server for clients that have very limited support and/or where you cannot configure authentication settings in advance. The classic example is a router that pulls its config or a software update automatically at boot.
