Everyone should have a common goal and be accountable for their actions. Don't worry too much about whether it's remote hybrid or on-site. Focus on the fundamentals of your team

# Clear Goals Setting clear, measurable goals is essential for remote teams. As an engineering manager, you should define objectives that align with your company's vision and provide a roadmap for your team's efforts. This clarity helps remote engineers understand what's expected of them and how their work contributes to the broader mission. Regular check-ins to discuss progress and make necessary adjustments keep everyone on track and motivated, fostering a sense of accountability and purpose despite the physical distance.

I've managed teams in remote locations and I have found that the following works well: Have regular video calls with small groups so everyone can be seen at once on the screen. Insist on people using video, get them a camera if need be. Twice weekly seems to work well. Meet the team when you can, whenever the opportunity arises (even if its once a year). Face to face meetings cement your relationship. Go out for dinner. Talk about them rather than work and really get to know them as people.

Tools help but don't worry too much about tools. If you have the right culture, discipline & trust everything starts falling in line. I have been doing remote for so long so it does not feel like remote anymore. When we are on the call, we open the video. We celebrate, work, and collaborate remotely so it's all mindset & culture.

Recognizing and celebrating milestones, birthdays, and achievements virtually makes everyone feel valued and connected. Implementing mentorship or buddy programs can pair team members for regular check-ins and support, fostering deeper relationships.

There are potential risk on quality delivery and maintaining timelines.For Computer science/ Software personnel is not much difficult.Yet Core Engineering projects personnel not so good in virtual communication, It needs more of physical presence,direct communication and at site to understand the site better. Engineering manager need to identify the risks for a specific project and device his strategy accordingly.It can flexible and hybrid(mix of site and remote work) as per site complexity.Need to fix and communicate the targets,schedules, budgets more specifically to team. He can fix SMART goals and respect some Autonomous scheduling by teammates.. Keeping tab on monitor,regular feedback,discussion, progress review help. That's it..
