I have used this approach a few times with great success. The need for safety and quality is to be sure both are represented and followed through the process. By including line workers or those that are directly impacted, will provide the best process at the lowest cost to improve throughput.

Open communication is also a key asset to any company. Employers need feedback from their employees, to fully understand their issues, performance, work perspective, teamwork performance, and suggestions to make the process flow better. Open communication leads to transparency, when the employer is willing and cooperative. Open communication should be valued by management and teams, which can lead to better interpersonal relationships and collective input.

I was part of a workshop to train individuals the importance of an SOP and the importance for a continued improvement SOP. Those who attended were the plant manager, department managers, supervisors, and floor leads. In this workshop we learned how to build wooden race cars, first from scratch, then by improving the process to a completed car ready to race. The team with the fastest car had the best detailed SOP. The team learned greatly from this exercise.

Innovation workshops are a tremendous idea for any company. No ideas should be considered unfathomable. Many of these workshops are in place to explore new ideas for newer problems, or issues that have not received a positive continual corrective action. Each piece of knowledge shared by each individual, from various departments, can create many possibilities and solutions.

Continuous improvement explains itself within the name. Continuous improvement can be extremely hard to manifest, or eased by some of the prior articles, like open communication, workshops, and knowledge sharing. To compete with the industry, a company must continue to mature in every stage of all processes. This is one of the most crucial positions any team member can have. You tirelessly seek ways to improve your company, and personally, I choose to do so through data. Improvement goes beyond work processes to expanding the work culture and team morale.
