The money being charged has to compensate for all of this over time + the effort. Day by day there are people who are trying to lower the rate just to get projects, people are literally working month long projects for just 20-25k. It’s high time we collectively set a standard for the work and stay firm on the industry rates. In order to get option #1 you need to show your value, break it down step by step and describe all the skills and bonuses you bring to the table. There are two kinds of networking: 1. in-person events and, 2. online networking. Both are valuable and both will offer opportunities that are unique to each option, but never underestimate the power of in-person networking, it can leave a lasting impression. Also, remember to follow up! And top tip: Aim to make friends, not just a 'business contact', have coffee, go out for dinner, talk about things outside of work. Why? Because people hire who they enjoy being around and talking to, and you like working with people who's company you enjoy-everyone wins.
