Building an architectural runway is a way to design for change. It is not always to timing or pressure to deliver faster that drives this and it is lot to do with delivering incrementally, testing the waters and then adapting. The key to building modular is to have an architectural runway where things can be added or removed without interrupting the natural flow of the system. SOLID principles and adhering to bounded context is the salient point to achieve this. If we build components that do one thing and only one thing well then it is easier to add one more component to the runway or remove if it does not work.

When you think decoupling, think about reactive event driven architecture. A component should do its work and send events communicating what it has done, other systems would listen to it and react if they need to else drop the ball.
