Harsh feedback originates in one of four places. First, the client has a LEGITIMATE beef due to a production error, i.e., missed deadline, specs not followed. In this case listen, note and correct the error, and re-examine the integrity of your production systems. Second, harshness is a method of masking constant changes in specs or scope (scope creep) by the client. Do NOT flinch. Contracts are vital to reference, be firm but polite. Third, the client is abusive by nature. Get away as fast as you can. Once a bully, always a bully. Fourth, YOU are the problem. You're over your head, you don't have the skill set required, the "fake it 'til you make" approach fails, or you're scamming in some way. Integrity wins in the long game. Play it.
