One of the objective way to have a mutual agreement upfront is by having a clear and defined KPIs. In the beginning of the year, my manager and I will have a discussion about KPI and agree on the work plans. Then, we will have a scheduled discussion on the progress of KPIs. Since we have a regular monitoring, then it is easy for us to do necessary actions in case any delays or challenges. Therefore, we can have a fair performance evaluations based on KPIs by the end of the year.

In addition to communicate effectively, I would like to add proactive actions. It is always better to proactively and effectively communicate critical issue to our supervisors. Rather than giving a surprise, we inform a heads-up in advance. Communicating effectively and proactively will not only support the business but also increase our credibility in front of our supervisors and colleagues.
