    Ever since I was young, I was always a diehard Manchester United fan. I loved the spirit and history of the club and I have always loved the sport of football. After watching how Erik Ten Hag has revolutionised Manchester United, I wanted to create a project that could analyse how Erik Ten Hag's was able to massively improve the squad in such a short time.     Ever since I was young, I was always a diehard Manchester United fan. I loved the spirit and history of the club and I have always loved the sport of football. After watching how Erik Ten Hag has revolutionised Manchester United, I wanted to create a project that could analyse how Erik Ten Hag's was able to massively improve the squad in such a short time. As somebody who knew how to code and have created webapps before, I wanted to pursue this project. During my journey of creating this web app, I was able to learn:

    • How to create databases by web scraping.
    • How to manage large databases.
    • How to create a webapp using Streamlit.
    • How to create a responsive data visualisation webapp that could show specific data based on a user's input.

    This webapp contains two parts: the Analysis on the Improvement of Players that are still with Manchester United from the previous 2021/2022 season and the Analysis on the New Signings Impact on the squad.

    For the first analysis, the user inputs 2 different types of data to analyse. The first being the player and the next being the stat that the user is interested in. With that, the webapp will show how much the player has improved/deteriorate from last season under Ten Hag and how different he plays as well by comparing his stats from this season and last season.

    For the second analysis, the user inputs 2 different types of data to analyse. The first being the player and the next being the stat that the user is interested in. With that, the webapp will show how this new signing has either improve/worsen the team by analysing his stats and comparing the team's stats from last season and this season.

  • Computer vision tracking of seafarers to aid ship design

    Designing a ship is an extremely difficult job due to its large importance in space management. Space on ships is very expensive and computer vision can be utilised to effectively manage space on ships. Using computer vision, a heat mapping software was developed using a Gaussian Mixture Modelling Background Subtraction method and Python OpenCV.

    Designing a ship is an extremely difficult job due to its large importance in space management. Space on ships is very expensive and computer vision can be utilised to effectively manage space on ships. Using computer vision, a heat mapping software was developed using a Gaussian Mixture Modelling Background Subtraction method and Python OpenCV.

    To test this software’s functionality, several tests were carried out. These tests utilised a controlled movement strategy where the test subject’s movement was predetermined and the software was only needed to successfully generate one particular heatmap. These tests were conducted using a GoPro Hero 9 to capture footage in the UCL Robert’s Building.

    From these tests, it was revealed that the software was able to generate heatmaps correctly with multiple test subjects. However, it was also discovered that the software was only able to accurately generate heatmaps under the following conditions: if the room was brightly lit and if the test subjects were not too far from the camera. Moreover, much noise was captured in the footage which affected the results. By influencing the maxValue variable in the code, the amount of noise generated by the heatmap can decrease and the amount of motion picked up from the software under low light conditions can increase.
