What an incredible week at SHIAF (Shanghai International Advertising Festival) in Shanghai! 🇨🇳✨For its 6th year of UK Advertising partnering with SHIAF, our VCCP Global CEO and UKAEG Chair Julian Douglas and Global Business Director Kan Ng joined with the Department for Business and Trade for an insightful programme, bringing together industry experts and business leaders from more than 20 countries and regions around the world. Read on for some of our highlights ⬇️ 🎤 Dougie and Kan proudly represented UK Advertising at the opening VIP dinner, where Sohail Shaikh, Deputy HM Trade Commissioner for China delivered an inspiring opening speech. ✍️ Dougie was inducted into the SHIAF Global Advisory Group as an Advisor for 2024-2027. 🤝Dougie signed an MOU, which announced that UKAEG now has an official UK presence in China. This signified their partnership with Sino-ADI to open the "Digital Advertising City Lounge" in Hongshoufang, paving the way for an even stronger UK-China creative collaboration, which will enable more UK agencies and companies to expand within China through UK Advertising. 🧠Dougie and Kan also gave a presentation about our Challenger Series report ‘Cracking the Memory Code’. 🏆We also brought home 9 awards — including 3 Golds! 🎉 Huge thanks to all our teams and clients involved for their outstanding work and creativity. Introducing - the Walrus Whizzer - the third instalment in our ‘To Better and Beyond’ creative platform ⚡ The campaign captures the unstoppable feeling that fast, smooth, reliable broadband brings and spotlights our recent ‘Best Broadband Experience’ award win from GWS. ⛰ The 60” film was made by our global content creation studio Girl&Bear in collaboration with film production company Biscuit Filmworks . 🎥 Directed by the Swedish artist and director Andreas Nilsson, known for his work with Apple, Uber Eats, and Volvo, ‘Walrus Whizzer’ was filmed in his home country. And to bring the walrus to life we teamed up once again with the wizards at Emmy and BAFTA award-winning Untold Studios. With an average of 200 incidents reported weekly, our new campaign with Transport for London ‘Abuse Has Consequences,’ sets out to address the growing violence and aggression against staff across the network. The D/OOH campaign emphasises that both physical and verbal abuse are criminal offences with serious consequences. In 2023/24, there were 10,493 reports of work-related violence and aggression, a 5% increase from the previous year. However, incidents of physical violence have decreased by 20% recently, thanks to measures like the adoption of body-worn cameras, deployment of Transport Support Enforcement Officers, and conflict management training. Research carried out by ‘The Smaller Boat’ for TfL showed that highlighting the consequences of abuse against staff was an effective message with customers and staff focus groups showing support for the messaging and reassurances that perpetrators are caught and convicted. We worked with our global content creation studio Girl&Bear and digital experience agency Bernadette to produce the campaign which incorporates visual elements of consequences such as prison bars, arresting handcuffs and fines to land the clear message that ‘Abuse Has Consequences’.
