  • Congratulations to Wah Kai Huy, Porter for winning July's Living Our Values award! His nomination reads: “Kai from the security team supported a young person who attended the QE due to physical health but also struggles with mental health along with having diagnosis of autism. This young person had a bad experience last time due to being restrained. Kai came out to support the patient he was so kind empathic and shows so much compassion and adjustment to the young person’s autism. This is something we don’t see very often but he took his time speaking to the patient to avoid a more severe escalation he spoke in a way that the patient would understand offering a lot of reassurance to not only the young person but the parent too. Amazing work Kai, thank you so much for advocating and supporting this young person in a distressing situation.” Well done Kai and thank you for all that you do for our patients.

  • Congratulations to this week's Team of the Week - Brancaster ward. Their nomination from a patient reads: “During my recent stay on Brancaster ward I was met with the most patient and understanding staff members. During the wait on the Brancaster ward for space in labour suite I was informed all the way what was happening and looked after. When I did go into labour and my baby was not well we were rushed in for an emergency caesarean. Although me and my partner were terrified, the Midwives (especially my student midwife) were amazing at reassuring me and holding me steady. They looked after my partner while I was under general anaesthetic and he couldn’t be with me. The Midwives and students back on Brancaster were amazing at explaining everything that had happened, they treated me with dignity and respect and care although at times they did not have the time to do so. I appreciate everything they have done and they all deserve more than a mention but I owe my life and my baby’s life to them, this is something I will never forget.” Well done team on this lovely nomination.

  • Sadie Gent, Necton Ward Coordinator received a Living Our Values nomination from a colleague which reads: "Ever since I have started my job as a Healthcare Assistant on Necton ward, two years ago, I have so much support from Sadie. I have two small kids and Sadie has always been so thoughtful to me and to so many amazing people working in our department. She does everything possible for wards to have enough staff. Her amazing, kind personality, trying to accommodate every single staff member with their needs (holidays, kids, partners rotas etc.) that’s what makes our ward to be so successful. Please can we recognise people who are behind the scenes, as they do so much for us, still stressing, trying to find appropriate staff, managing e-roster, holidays etc. Big applause to you Sadie. Without you and your commitment and support, I would not deliver my person centred care that I do ❤️"

  • Well done to Shaun for receiving a Living Our Values nomination which reads: "We had a child in Child Resus 1 who was acutely unwell and required assistance for the transfer to Rudham. Shaun was the Porter assigned to this child. Straight away Shaun was amazing with the child and ensured that he communicated with the anxious child all the way up to the ward! I believe this helped the child with the transfer immensely. Couldn't have asked for a more caring and compassionate member of staff. Very valued."

  • Smoking is prohibited: There are increasing reports of visitors to the QEH site smoking cigarettes, particularly around the main entrance. The QEH site was designated a smoke free site in March to protect the health and wellbeing of our patients, staff and visitors. There are no designated smoking areas on our site. Like all hospitals in Norfolk, smoking is not permitted in our gardens, walkways or shelters. People seen smoking will be respectfully reminded of the Smokefree Site, informed of smoking cessation support and politely asked to leave our grounds if they wish to smoke. Former smoking shelters have been repurposed as Quit Zones to support people (staff and patients) who use e-cigarettes (vapes) to quit smoking tobacco. Tobacco use is the UK's single biggest preventable cause of death, killing two-thirds of long-term users and causing 80,000 deaths every year. There were 408,700 hospital admissions in England due to smoking in 2022-23.
