Building a better future for our customers, region and planet 💧

About us

We are the UK’s biggest water and sewerage company with around 15 million customers across London and the Thames Valley. You would be joining a company with an amazing history and an exciting future. We provide clean and take away waste water for almost 25 per cent of the UK population every day – that’s more than 11,000 Olympic size swimming pools worth of clean water and 16,000 pools of waste. We will not compromise on standards which is why we carry out more than 400,000 tests per year on our drinking water. We continue to invest and this year will be spending more than £1 billion to improve our networks and infrastructure – our pipes, sewerage treatment and clean water treatment plants, which are some of the biggest and most advanced sites in Europe. And we will spend the same again next year in our challenge to make sure that if our customers had a choice, they would choose Thames Water. Planning for the future is a key part of our strategy and we already generate enough electricity to power more than 55,000 homes. We also understand the importance of speaking to our youngest customers through our sustainability and education programs in schools and effectively manage and maintain a number of nature reserves. Above all this, Thames Water values its staff as number one and we can now look forward to welcoming you to our team.

We’re driving forward plans to protect the water supply for millions of Londoners by appointing world-class experts Jacobs and Mott MacDonald under a joint venture to lead the development of vital new infrastructure. As our new Technical Partner, their teams will support development proposals for the Teddington Direct River Abstraction project, which is designed to provide water security during drought. Our partnership gives us access to an expansive supply chain of technical experts with major infrastructure project experience in engineering, design, environmental assessment, planning, and land access and acquisition. You can find out more about this nationally significant infrastructure project and the work we’re doing to secure water for the future here: https://lnkd.in/eGCj-h8p Mohit Farmah

The Government recently approved our Water Resource Management Plan (WRMP), allowing us to move forward in tackling the water challenges ahead. The South East of England is facing serious water stress due to climate change, a growing population and our need to protect the environment. If we do nothing, demand will outstrip supply by 2035. Our plan to address the water shortage challenge adopts a two-track approach: • Reducing water wastage by fixing leaks and promoting water efficiency • Investing in new water supply and storage projects Our WRMP is the result of exploring over 1,400 options to address the supply-demand deficit. The Government recognises the real threat to our future water supply, which is why they have approved our plan to develop a new reservoir and water recycling projects to ensure we’re ready for the challenges ahead.

We’re nearing the completion of a major infrastructure project to upgrade 2.6km of water mains pipes in North London, driving down leakage and protecting future water supply.   We’ve been working closely with Morrison Water Services to fix pipes faster and with less disruption using Die Draw Ltd’s innovative solution. This technology means we can upgrade pipes without digging up miles of road and building up traffic on some of the busiest roads in London.    Watch the video below to see our water director Martin Padley and Morrison Water Services project manager Tom Shanahan explain how the Finsbury Park project will benefit our customers for generations to come.   To find out more about major upgrades in your area: https://lnkd.in/e_NjeJAG

We’d like to say a huge congratulations to Adrian Wallis, our site performance manager at Beddington sewage treatment works, for 50 years of service at Thames Water. Adrian joined us in 1974 at the age of 17, working his way up from scientific officer to qualified chemist before moving into operational management. In his own words, Adrian says: “There’s been many changes, of course, over 50 years, but the job of providing an essential service has remained the same. While not glamorous – few people outside the company realise what we do in wastewater treatment – those I’ve had the pleasure to show round a sewage works have unfailingly been surprised and impressed by the whole process. “The job is challenging at times, but no two days are quite the same, so it’s always interesting. The dedication and ownership of our teams in getting the job done professionally is a source of pride that I feel strongly about. “Fifty years sounds like a long time, but I remember my first day as clearly as if it were last week – probably more clearly with advancing years! I look forward to retirement next year, but I know I’ll miss this organisation and the great people that work for it.” Thank you, Adrian, for your hard work and dedication – we’re proud of everything you’ve achieved and hope you enjoy your well-deserved celebrations!

We have listened carefully to Ofwat’s feedback and have responded constructively to address the issues raised, updating our plan to reflect stretching goals. Our customers told us to focus on delivering safe and resilient water supplies, and address concerns over our overall performance including on customer service and dealing with wastewater. Here’s what we’re proposing to deliver https://lnkd.in/eHRNYux5

Today is #InternationalDayofCharity, and we’re supporting our partner Macmillan Cancer Support as they hold their biggest annual fundraising event. Every year, Coffee Morning brings people from across the UK together to share food and drink and raise money to support people living with cancer.  Last year, the event raised £18,041,302 – enough to fund 288 Macmillan nurses for one year. Join us in hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning on 27 September (or a day that suits you), and make a huge difference to people living with cancer. https://lnkd.in/eF_D8uts

On our water and wastewater treatment sites, vibration monitoring is critical for identifying potential asset issues such as bearing wear, loose belts, loose bolts and manufacturing defects. Our talented team of skilled technicians is responsible for managing these vibration monitoring systems and safeguarding our day-to-day operations against equipment failure. Detecting and fixing problems like this early helps us optimise asset performance, sustain the lifespan of our equipment and keep our service running smoothly for customers.

The Government has officially approved our Water Resource Management Plan (WRMP), which sets out our strategy to secure your water supply for the future. Climate change and population growth are already affecting the South East’s water supply reserves, so this plan is absolutely critical. By 2050, we forecast that we’ll need an extra billion litres of water every day to meet the shortfall. We’re taking steps to reduce leakage and use water more wisely, and are also proposing to invest in major new infrastructure to keep the taps flowing. The Government’s confidence in our plan means we can keep water flowing for you and future generations. Read the full announcement here https://lnkd.in/dCTjT-8D
