Skills over education and experience 👏 There is a shifting mindset in hiring for technical roles. According to a report from Test Gorilla, 88% of tech companies report they’re using skills-based hiring to recruit new talent, and 89% of tech employers saying they’re satisfied with skills-based hires made in the past 12 months. 👉🏻 Reduced mis-hires (97%) 👉🏻 Reduced cost-to-hire (84%) 👉🏻 Reduced time-to-hire (86%) 👉🏻 Improved retention (91%) 👉🏻 Improved diversity (93%) We have prioritised skills, attitude, and aptitude over education or experience since our inception. We don't ask our trainees to display prior experience in STEM or to have a degree-level education. For us - it's their passion for tech, work ethic and potential to learn that tells us they have a future in tech. We are so confident about skills-based hiring, we fund all specialist technology and business training and pay our trainees a salary from day one. QA Non Functional Analyst, Neurodiversity Advocate

Wow, two years at Sparta Global already? So much has happened in that time, and so much has changed. I remember signing my contract whilst sitting in the Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow. I'd just arrived for #Mach22, and was mooching around the gallery while waiting for the coach to Discover Space UK Space Port. It felt like the start of everything I had been working for since 2019, and it changed everything. During my time, I have trained as a Java Engineer and have worked as a Performance Engineer for a large telecommunications and broadcast company. I'm now in a great placement, working as a Non Functional QA Test Analyst. Building out a non-functional test arm for the existing QA team has been an amazing challenge and I'm loving the challenge that each day brings. On top of this, I've been able to pursue my passion in #Neurodiversity #Advocacy. I've hosted multiple talks, including a recent presentation at the BCS SIGiST (Special Interest Group in Software Testing) Summer Conference. I can't wait to see what the next two years bring! Thanks to the entire Sparta Global team for their support and for pushing me forward. A special thanks to Gaia Caruso, Purnima Sen BA. MA. MBA, Neil Weightman, Annabelle Price and James Dobbie.

A fantastic article from journalist and social mobility advocate Jane Hamilton! ⬇️ Can you believe only 9% of technology employees are from a lower socio economic background 🤯 This is despite around half of the public (48%) considering themselves to be working class, an estimated 1.5 million young people in the UK not currently employed/in education/or in training - who say they want to work, and a digital skills crisis threatening UK businesses... Inclusivity is the key to combatting the skills crisis. If we can improve the representation and success of people from disadvantaged backgrounds in tech, we can drive growth across the UK economy. Together, we must: 👉🏻 Educate employers on non-traditional hiring methods: graduates are not the only group worthy of new training and employment opportunities 👉🏻 Build relationships with local communities and social mobility cold spots 👉🏻 Assess a hire's attitude and aptitude for suitability in a tech role, don't rely on degree or experience 👉🏻 Partner with organisations that are purpose driven and support those from under-represented groups 👉🏻 Invest in support and engagement frameworks that will help those from lower socio economic backgrounds to increase their sense of belonging 👉🏻 Shout about the commercial benefits of diverse teams - greater innovation! ---- Sparta Global helps organisations to build technology and business capability, adopt future skills, and make a social impact - hiring, training and deploying the next generation of diverse tech leaders. As a Top 20 Social Mobility Employer, B Corp, and 2024 winner of a King's Award for Enterprise for Promoting Opportunity, contact us today to find out how we support the technology training and careers of thousands of people from lower socio economic backgrounds. https://lnkd.in/gRYvGAKQ ----

    Journalist, Editor & Careers Expert

After 20+ years as a journalist, not a lot floors me - but this did. The UK's most elite business isn't banking or law - it's tech! We may poke fun at the grey hoodies of 'tech bro' culture but this is the fastest-growing economic sector in the UK, so how it hires vital. Only nine per cent of tech staff are from working class backgrounds compared to the 29 per cent in finance, 23 per cent in law, and the 39 per cent of the UK labour force overall. So, what's to be done? There are plenty of insightful suggestions today from The Social Mobility Foundation and Gary Izunwa's team at Tangent - and I'm keen to hear your ideas too https://lnkd.in/eT86gemE
