Across the Summer, thousands of Royal Mail colleagues helped to raise funds for our charity partner British Heart Foundation. Running from July until September, the summer fundraising challenge has seen hiking, quizzing, baking and plenty of visits from BHF’s mascot Hearty, all in support of British Heart Foundation and their lifesaving work. Just over a year since first launching our drone distribution flights in the Orkney Isles, today we're announcing an extension to the project. Transportation of Royal Mail parcels and packages is set to continue into 2026 with routine drone deliveries. As the first UK commercial drone delivery project to be implemented on a regular basis, we're excited to continue this operation over the next two years to improve connectivity and access to critical public services in some of the most remote parts of the country. Alex Brown, Director, Skyports Drone Services, said: “Our Orkney flights with Royal Mail demonstrate the viability of long-term drone operations and highlight the role that new aviation technologies can play in supporting essential public services... To secure the strong growth trajectory we believe drones can achieve, we’re working hard to support the development of an enabling ecosystem for drone services." Councillor Kristopher Leask, Orkney Islands Councillor (Kirkwall West and Orphir) and Chair of the Development and Infrastructure Committee, said: “I'm delighted to see the commitment to Orkney shown in the extension of drone deliveries, and I look forward to seeing how Skyports Drone Services and Royal Mail can further work with communities to improve the services the depend on." A huge thank you to each and every project partner! Orkney Islands Council | Orkney Harbours | Loganair Limited | Chris Paxton

Thank you, Royal Mail for helping to raise vital lifesaving funds during #SouthAsianHeritageMonth #SAHM2024❤️ Switha Ram says “As the HR Business Partner for Processing, it was important to celebrate South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM). To help educate and inspire a better understanding of the diversity in our business. For communities to come together and honour, recognise and celebrate the rich history of South Asia which has enriched British culture. It has been truly mesmerising to see our colleagues fully embrace this occasion. The celebrations throughout the month through music, dance, clothing and cuisine have been a fantastic opportunity to inject some fun and colour into the workplace, all whilst fundraising for our partner Charity, BHF.”

We've added a new stamp scanner to our app that will enable customers to check if a stamp is a known counterfeit. The stamp scanner has been designed to provide extra reassurance to customers who may be unsure about whether a stamp is counterfeit or not. Customers can use the app to check whether it is a known counterfeit, preventing them from inadvertently becoming victims of fraud. Once the barcode on the stamp is scanned, the customer will be told whether it is scanning as a recognised counterfeit or not. If customers did not purchase their stamps from Royal Mail, the Post Office, or another reputable High Street outlet, they are advised to scan their stamps on each occasion before use.

We're adding another 2,100 electric vans to our fleet over the next year as part of our plans to achieve Net-Zero carbon emissions by 2040. We already have the largest electric delivery fleet in the UK with around 5,000 vans, and the new additions will increase the total by almost half in just one year, bringing it to 7,100. The new electric vehicles, which will be the first of our famous red vans to include the new King’s cruciform and livery, will be rolled out from August across the UK. We plan for more than half to be on the streets in time for the Christmas shopping period, helping to provide greener deliveries during the busiest time of the year. Most of the vans will be charged on-site at Royal Mail’s delivery offices via a purchased 100% renewable electricity supply meaning they will be zero-emission. When all 2,100 new electric vans are in use, they are expected to reduce Royal Mail’s total emissions by around 6,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per year.
